A pen picture of 'The Wytvern Boys'

Before setting off on their exploits, a little pen picture (in Stinka's case, it is more of a 'pen-and-ink' picture) must be observed. The balance of any good team depends upon having a good leader. Someone that you can always rely upon to come up with the right solution to any given problem. They are the centre pole of the marquee. In Tank's case, he often can be seen as the Elephant in the room, as he inadvertently mixes his responsibilities of Management with an innate characteristic of trying to avoid the heavy lifting of actually doing much work. He has achieved his elevated position of 'Team Leader' more from good luck than good planning.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next in the order of peck is Torp. An interesting pet name, which will become clear quite quickly as we progress through the murky world of the Wytvern Boys. Torp is a dreamer. This is more a case of by accident than design, as he is the longest serving member of the team, but sadly he was asleep when promotion was on the cards, and this is the main feature of his nature. Getting up in the morning is about as much effort as he can conjure up before dwindling into insignificance during the rest of the day. Breathing in and out really takes it out of him, and if it were not for the breaking up of the day for breakfast, morning coffee, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, supper, and cocoa, he would miss most of the day entirely. His favourite place is his bed. It is truly his happiest part of the day.
Squashy is a quirk of nature. A young bright light in the academic sky, he is working his way through a degree in Philosophy at college. An interesting subject with no defined beginning and an interminable habit of never being able to find any sort of satisfactory ending. In days of yore, he would have been considered as a ‘sage’ a burning firmament in the universe. An ancient concept for a celestial font of knowledge, he strives to be all things to all people. In modern-day parlance, he would be termed more as ‘a know-it-all.’ And in this guise, he always wishes to share all with anyone that he can pin down long enough to listen to him. His part-time job with the team is an ideal solution, as they are a captive audience, as they bowl along country roads and monotonous motorways. The others are indeed victims of circumstance.

Stinka is last and very much the least. A wastral and vagabond of

the dustbins and he is a true doggy orphan of life. He is the epitome

of a pet without a master or mistress. Living in the work Yard, he

exists on his wits, which sadly are below standard, and he is mainly

‘witless.’ Fortunately, he still has a fall-back position, in that he has

more than enough cunning to survive, and has worked out that

travellnig around with the Wytvern Boys always delivers breakfast,

morning coffee, lunch, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera………..
All of this is overseen by the Senior Manager, the grand vizier

of the Yard, Grump. Who is in a state of constant suspicion about

the daily antics of The Wytvern Boys.
